When a student is absent, we get a slip from the office explaining the reason. Today I got a unique but quite valid excuse: "Will be in Tokyo meeting the president [of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki]". Sure enough, it turns out that the president of Kenya is visiting Japan for a few days on a diplomatic mission. The student's father works for the embassy here.
